Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia di Australia (PPIA) VIC is thrilled to announce “Cultural Day,” a two-day Indonesian-themed extravaganza aimed at promoting cultural diversity and fostering a deeper understanding of Indonesian traditions. This exciting event will take place on July 28-29, 2023, at the historic Old Melbourne Gaol from 3 pm until 7 pm.

Cultural Day promises to be an immersive and enlightening experience, featuring a series of interactive workshops led by experts and event committees. Participants will have a unique opportunity to learn directly from accomplished practitioners, gaining insights into the rich tapestry of Indonesian heritage.

Throughout the two-day event, attendees will engage in captivating hands-on sessions, delving into the intricate art forms that define Indonesian culture. These workshops will include sambal making class, angklung class, and batik class which includes pottery.

Discover the art of creating sambal, a versatile chili-based condiment in the sambal making workshop and learn to play the traditional Indonesian musical instrument in the angklung class. Finally, immerse your creativity in the art of creating batik pattern, while indulging in hand pottery guided by the event’s committee members in the batik workshop.

The workshops will foster a collaborative environment, enabling participants to interact closely with the masters and acquire practical knowledge that can be applied long after the event. By bringing together experienced and passionate individuals, Cultural Day aims to nurture a sense of appreciation and respect for Indonesian culture within the broader community.

“Cultural Day aims to introduce Indonesian culture to a wider audience, encouraging cultural exchange and understanding,” said Gabriella Nathannia, Project Manager for Cultural Day 2023. “Through these interactive workshops, we hope to provide a platform for participants to connect with the richness and diversity of Indonesian traditions.”
