Sydney, NSW — PPIA UNSW is thrilled to announce the resounding success of the Indonesian Night Market 2024, which took place on 14th June 2024 at UNSW Globe Lawn. Despite the unexpected rain, the event saw a remarkable turnout. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who came and helped make the event memorable.

The event started with a series of captivating performances, beginning with Indonesia’s Parade showcasing a flag-raising ceremony, various traditional costumes from different regions, and a mini skit featuring Indonesian pop culture figures such as NIKI, Chef Juna, and Deddy Corbuzier, which set the tone for the day. Following this, amazing band performances by students, the renowned Angklung symphony, and traditional dance performances enchanted the audience. The food stall options ranged from Satay, Ayam Geprek, and Nasi Padang to desserts like Martabak, bringing comforting flavors of home meals distinct to Indonesian dinner tables for newcomers to experience and for homesick visitors to enjoy.

In addition to the performances and food, the event featured ‘Podjok Budaya’, a range of activities and games for people to immerse themselves in traditional Indonesian culture. Starting with games like Marbles or ‘Balap Kelereng’, City Formation, Ketapel, and activities like Tote Bag Batik Workshop, provided a perfect opportunity for families and friends to bond and enjoy quality time together. Meanwhile, the photobooth, which allowed visitors to personalise their photos, was a crowd favorite, drawing participants of all ages. The night ended perfectly with a band performance by Frasa, leaving the audience with a feeling close to home, Indonesia.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. We would like to express our sincere thanks to UNSW Sydney, Arc @ UNSW and Medibank, iPAN Property, Garuda Indonesia, OrbitRemit, Telkom International, RACC Australia, Uniair Cargo Australia, San Java, EnjoyMie, Martabak Pecenongan 78 for their invaluable contributions. Additionally, we extend gratitude to our media partners, SBS Indonesia, Indomedia, The Rock Indonesian Community, WAQ Productions, and UNSW Culture. We also thank the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Sydney, the Embassy of Indonesia, UNSW Komunitas Indonesia, and Randwick City Council for their support in making the event a success and helping us deliver an unforgettable experience for all visitors.
