Mark your calendars for Sydney’s biggest Indonesian Night Market! The UNSW Indonesian Students Association (PPIA UNSW) celebrates the 22nd anniversary of the Indonesian Night Market (INM), a free public event featuring Indonesian culture through food, performances, and fun. This year it will take place for one night only on Friday, 14 June 2024, at UNSW Globe Lawn.
Immerse yourself in the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavours of Indonesia at this massive night market. Indulge in a mouthwatering selection of over 60 dishes from various food stalls, representing the diverse culinary tapestry of Indonesia. From savory favorites like martabak, soto padang, soto betawi, and various types of satays, to iconic rice dishes such as nasi goreng, nasi campur, nasi Bali, and nasi uduk, and refreshing treats like cendol and es doger – there’s something to satisfy every craving.
The evening comes alive with a whirlwind of entertainment. Witness dazzling traditional dances, a vibrant parade showcasing Indonesian attire and iconic figures, Gamelan and dance by Suwitra Jaya Gamelan, captivating musical performances from student groups, a mini karaoke session, and a performance by Sydney’s own Indonesian band, Frasa, playing popular Indonesian tunes.
This year’s theme, “KELANA: Kembali Langkah Menuju Makna” (“WANDERING: Another Step Towards Meaning”), comes to life at the Podjok Boedaya (Cultural Corner). Participate in a fun Batik workshop, engage in traditional games, and contribute to the Memory Wall and City Formation activities. You can also capture memories with a personalized experience at INM’s photo booth.
